Great Photos of Jacqueline Kennedy’s Goodwill Trip to India and Pakistan

In 1962 President Kennedy sent First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy on a goodwill trip to India and Pakistan.

Evidently she “was the rarest of political creatures: ordinary enough to be non-threatening but elevated enough to inspire admiration” and so she became an ambassador of sorts.

Reading the article makes me wonder about our political world; how a visit from an, basically, apolitical woman could bring about such positive results. But then again, perhaps her audience was sensible to begin with; something that is lacking in meetings and negotiations with groups in the middle east now.
